Reliability of a used 2001 BMW 530i with 113K mileage? |
|
I am wanting to purchase a used BMW with 113K mileage on it. What is the recommendation as far as the relibility of mileage is concerened? Is the life of the car overat 100K miles? Has anybody used the car beyond 100K miles? any mechanical problems that could possibly occur after 100K miles?
thanks

in general, the M54 six Cylinder engine used in the 530i is a dependable engine. The major problem as with most BMW's will be the cooling system. Pay extra special attention to the condition of the water pump, radiator and expansion tank a little black container near the radiator . If you see any white residue splashes on or around the engine, coolant either is or was leaking.
The transmission used in the 530i is hit or miss. Drive the car till it's completely warmed up. attempt all gears as well as reverse and be sure there's no slipping. The transmission should shift smooth as silk. If it checks out, I could recommend finding a mechanic that will change the "Lifetime Fill" liquid and filter for dependability. BMW transmissions use a special liquid made by Esso.
If everything checks out, attempt every single electrical accessory, switch, button and handle. Electrical problems in BMW's may be annoying and costly to fix. in general, the car should give you a useful life, but expect some repairs at some point.

I honestly could not touch a used car with over 100k miles. toyotas have problems after 100k miles. I heard BMW engines break down lots after 70k miles.
