How do you get a substitute key for a 2001 cadillac? The key is lost.

you will have to go to the dealership. They can make you another key but be sure you take the registration to the car and your photo ID so they can see you own it. they will make you another key but it'll cost you. Some cars are cheaper than others but if your Cadillac has an anti theft device in it it'll cost more to make the key since there's a tiny computer chip in it. Expect to pay most likely between $25 and $50.it depends on where you live.
Good luck

Phone the dealer who sold the car first. There should be a key code and hopefully the resistor code written into the sales agreement. IF not, you'll end up having to replacing the whole lock cylinder.

Could call a locksmith problem with going to the dealer is theyll don’t have way to program your key without having to have the car towed. which will be anther expense for you.
It also depends on what kind of car you have if its the early vats key which are rare on 01s I think the eldorado still uses it. The dealer could help as long as the ignition never been changed out with out them needing the car towed anything else I could call a locksmith. If the key was square with a pellet in the blade of the key that is a vats dealer may help and be cheaper. The other cars are passkey3 systems
that must be programed to the car and they suck. but they're onboard programmable.
