Not really. Unless you have been driving for some years already, any performance car, a light one like an RSX S is not a smart idea for a young driver. you are probably to flog it harder than you may be able to handle. you are probably to damage this comparatively new car if you do not kill anybody in it. Insurance businesses know this. you will be paying about 30 % more to insure this car than lots of other cars in the same year range. And two three times as much as something from the late 90s.
It's also a theft prone car, and that may be important depending where you live.
It is not as bad an idea as a Mustang or Camaro, but it's a bad idea.
Good car? Yes. Good car for a 17 year old? No.

I do not think it is a good car for a teenager. Go for something in the Honda line that you may put regular fuel into and beat on.RSX S's are not for beating on and they take premium fuel.

The RSX S is one of the most, if not the top, costly FWD cars to insure in the U.S. So that factor, with the fact that it seems sporty and will draw lots of attention, I could say no.
Have you looked at the Honda CRX Si? it's small and gets GREAT gas mileage, not as powerful as the RSX, but handles like a go kart. as well, it's easy to change, and the JDM engines fit right in, so you may be able to easily, and pretty affordably make a CRX faster than a RSX S for lots less moeny, and be a whole lot more distinctive simultaneously. This car could cost less to: purchase, insure, pay for gas, maintenance, etc.

The RSX type S is a good car but for someone at your age it really depends on how your going to be driving it. The RSX may take money to preserve since its still new and not cheap for the used ones either. If you have not really drove a performance car then I would not really say you may want to or if you have not really driven a manual trans. car. If anything you may be able to maybe settle with the Integra GSR since its the older model of the RSX. Its not as fast but its a car I could say it be better

I am a 17 year old who owns an 04 RSX type S. This car has great handling and is a great all around car. It has the sporty outside but it's a better quality car and cheaper to insure than a mustang the reason I know its cheaper to insure is because my sister has an 02 mustang and her insurance is much higher than mine. RSX ' s are a somewhat new car so they're costly to purchase as a used car and they require premium gasoline but if costs are not a concern I'd say go ahead and get it because its a great dependable car.
