swapping in any piston engine wont be easy. majority of people exchange in chevy LS1 or LT1 engines, and there are kits available to do the exchange from granny's speed shop. with the kit, this is a hard exchange if you are not experienced and a pretty big project. as well, most v8 trades cost about 4000 10,000 dollars if you do the work yourself, so replacing the stock engine or doing a TII exchange will be cheaper.
EDIT: after reading the other answers, I feel I have to comment more. 1st of all, NO RX seven OF ANY YEAR EVER CAME FACTORY WITH ANY PISTON ENGINE. EVER. some of the older RX models like the RX 2, RX three had piston engine counter parts, which were the same cars just different engines and also a different name. no mazda car labeled as an RX anything will come with an engine other than a rotating.
also, the V8 exchange isn't something I personally favor, but I can surely see its benefits. the RX 7s are fast stock, but they are to get old and lots of new cars can beat them. don't listen to these lies of a struck me redline, or unbeatable power. lots of cars today will lay the smack down on a stock or mildly changed RX 7, the supreme final unbeatable 3rd gen twin turbo omg no way. . corvettes, camaros, evos, sti's, srt 4's. I guess if you use up all day racing n/a four cylinders you will feel unbeatable, but most rotaries are anything but. that is not to say rotaries are not fast, I have a second gen TII that runs 12's, but mines far from stock.

One of the most liked trades is for a small block Chevy V8. Some of them come out barely any heavier than the rotating.

Here's someone's account of their RX7 V8 exchange. Most of the pictures are down, unfortunately.

Trust me kid keep the rotory. or you may be able to go on A seek n distroy mission looking for I think About 2000 RX7s FROM

Putting a Boinger into any RX makes baby Jesus cry. ,
But yes, there are many FC's and FD's running small block V8's. A 'net search can find some number of examples. You could also look on the RX7Club.com forums.
