Should I get a Mercedes C300(first car)?

Postby JerryHu » Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:25 am

Ok, I have been working since I was 14 and now I have $20,000 saved up and you're most likely wondering how did I save that, well I started when I was eleven and now being a 17 yr old man I have 20,000 to put a down payment on. I thinked about a Honda accord bur it costs $31,906 completely loaded and I figured if I use up that much on a Honda I could get a Mercedes. Tell me about build quality, and just your opnion on the car. Notice I said the car. Don',t tell me what I shouldn',t get because I haven't ever been in a wreck and don',t plan to. as well, don',t say get a American car because they're pieces of scrap metal. particularly Ford. no offense

If you may be able to pay for a Mercedes, theres no reason to purchase a Honda. The C300 wouldn',t be a bad choice, just expect to take it to the shop every once in a while. you may want to also think about an Audi A4 or a Lexus IS350.

I agree with you about American cars being awful, I wouldn',t purchase one either.

hi Mercedes C300 is a top notch quality car but if you going to get one get it with warranty o you don't have to pay if ti breaks down don't fall in the mistake I fell in and c300 are good loaded for the price I could get a merc instead of a honda but if it has a warranty andif it has warranty that is about to end you could just extend it.

good luck

Honestly if you took that 20 great and put it in the market, by 50 you could be a millionaire... once you continue to invest

Its your money although, I could look at an IS 250/350 too. The C300 looks great, built hard, interior could use work and while Benz quality is better, its nowhere near class leading. Also you simply must get the C300 sport, looks better, bigger wheels, somewhat lower.

You should also think about that such a car can be costly to insure. Check your insurance rates before purchasing one, as an example here carinsurance.yollthe

Mercedes quality improved largely, but a Honda is still a better car.

A used Honda is better car.

I have a Mercedes which I hereditary and a Nissan Altima, which I bought.

Mercedes are for rich people, and people that purchase them who aren',t rich, will be poor for their complete lives.

Think ahead, in four years from now, your now four year old Mercedes will be worth about $12,000, meaning you'll have lost $20,000 in depreciation OUCH

It will have dings and scratches, and it won',t smell new, and it'll just be another used car, a car in which you lost $20K

To say nothing of higher insurance, maintenance, DMV fees, and they take premium unleaded only.

One little mishap in the center east, and we',re looking at $4.75 a gallon again for regular, and $4.90 for premium.

You really want to use up $110 to fill up?

Read the book, Millionaire next door, and Think and Grow Rich

The overwhelming most of millionaires in the USA drive five year old Toyota Camerys. Don',t fall for the trap .

You are young, if you INVEST $20K today, you may be so rich in 20 years, that you could pay cash for a fleet of Benzs.

It',s humorous, because I'm in the same situation. sorta of. I need a car for graduate school and my price maximum is around 30k. Like you, I could get a completely loaded Camry I like Toyota over Honda, what can I say for around 30k then I thought, entrylevel lavish cars Mercedes Benz/BMW C Class/3 Series starts at 30k. Sure, why not get a Mercedes I',m looking at the C too, over the three over a Toyota? Well the fact is, if you build the car, you come to realize that it starts at around 32k, but once built, and I',m not talking about completely loaded, I',m talking about the basics like sunroof, auto locks, etc. and it'll run you towards 40k. So. just so you're aware, an entrylevel car will bring you to 40k, not 30. And if you you don',t need all those cool things like sunroof, well, tough luck because form my experience, they don',t make them without sunroof/automatic lock. Sure, you may be able to ask for it, but they',ll give you this look, and you',ll have to wait some months for it to be made/transported from Germany I had to do that for my last car , then you must pay transportation fee, etc. etc. It',s a annoyance. So shortly, you may be able to get a higher level car, but do expect to pay an extra 10k. This goes for Lexus and Audi too.

You won't be able to finance a car through a dealer at age 17. An installment loan at a bank is not likely, so you',ll have to pay cash for the total buy price of a car before you turn 18.

The Mercedes, in comparison to a Honda, will cost at least twice as much for maintenance. it'll have more issues that will force you to leave it at the dealer many days at a time.

I could tell you to keep saving money till you turn 18, then you',ll be able to get financing for whatever you want. Don',t use up your savings on a down payment. Sooner or afterward you',ll need a chunk of money for something unexpected, and it may not be car related, so think twice about the size of your down payment.

I think you shoulddd.. I did, I had the 08', C300 as my 1st car. Great car. Fast, comfy, and still a relaxed drive unlike Beemers. I had the C300 for nearly two years, then I sold it and I got the 2010 GLK, which is wayyyyyyy better. IF you have up to 50K to use up, I seriously think about you purchase the the GLK. It drives like a C300, has the engine of the ML class, is 700 pounds lighter, and can handle the road like a legit SUV. great car, I wannt keep this one for longer than two years that is for sure, im only 19 but my complete family mercedes and we love them.

BUTTT you do have to have the personality of a mercedes to take pleasure in this car. If your just looking for speed and violent driving, donntt get the mercedes, get a BMW. The C300 gives you a great illusion of that but honestly it can not handle the road like a beemer can no doubt. I love mercedes cuz I like driving relaxed, listeening to my music in great speakers, speeding when I'd like to, but comfort is everything to me.

I hope this helps you...

You can',t go wrong with a Mercedes or Honda. Both great cars. but, there's one big difference.. maintenance.

Honda',s will last and last.. possibly a Mercedes too. But, if you C300 breaks down, you',ll really be paying for it. Mercedes are costly to own, not just for the initial buy, but for its life. Have you ever noticed you may be able to pick up a some number of year old Mercedes pretty cheaply? Yes, you may be able to . It',s the maintenance that will kill you.

At 17, purchase something a bit more 17yearoldish. Don',t get a cool car because it screams money. it screams waste. you may be able to pay for it now because you',ve saved for six years. Heck, if I bought a car for what I may have saved for the past six years, I',d have a Ferrari. but just not practical.

Honda for sure, but keep all your other alternatives open. avoid Mercedes and particularly BMW hey look everybody, I drive a beamer. .

BTW: I drive a Ford F150 Supercrew. a nice truck, &, useful. But maintenance is an issue as you pointed out yourself. Had a Nissan Maxima. great car, fast, and dependable.,

i have had lots of cars. more than birthdays in fact. ignore the last posts. if you do end up purchasing the honda you'll kick yourself and say why didn',t I purchase that mercedes when I had the cash. if you want the mercedes go for it. the servicing cost more because its more in depth than a service on a japanese car. because the japanese design there cars to be thrown away. btw long time ford lover. I can appreciate a decent yank tank cos they're so raw in comparison to a mercedes eg. german cars have a hard thunk when you shut the doors that other cars didn',t. I have driven LOTS of cars, take it from me regardless how many cars you go through like your 1st sexual experience you generally remember your 1st.
