I love the model youre considering, its a nice car. but, certain Honda/Acuras equipped with V6s from ~ 2000 thru 2002 have faulty transmissions. Unfortunately the 01 TL is on the list. Honda claims its less than 8% of their production run for the models influenced.
The problem looks to be related to faulty 2nd & third gear clutch packs, and possibly other internals to their auto transmissions. The problem was serious enough that Honda caved in to a class action lawsuit that affords holders of influenced vehicles a warranty extension to 108K miles. You may check this out on the Honda web site to be sure that their expanded warranty covers non original holders.
The major reason why it may seem right to not purchase the car is that the transmisson installed to the car youre thinking about is probably a rebuilt one. usually they only carry a one 1 yr warranty, and its quite possible that it too suffers from the same potential problems that the original transmission failed from. that's, you run an elevated risk of facing future transmission problems with that car. You may be looking at $4K in service costs if it should fail.

Just to add to what Snookie said. The warranty was expanded to 108k miles OR seven years whichever comes 1st. It doesnt matter how old or how many miles are on the new transmission. The warranty covers the car, no matter who owns it. Salvaged cars arent covered.
In my case, I bought my CL used, the transmission has been replaced under warranty at 69k, now I have 83k miles but since the car was first bought mid 2000, the transmission in not under warranty.
Replacements costs are more like $6000. They also replace the ECU and fuel pressure regulator to detune the engine and reprogram the transmission.
That being said, Its only happened to a small % of the Accord v6, Odyssey, Pilot, MDX, CL, CLS, TL, TLS. Every car has its own problems. If you like it, purchase it. Im pleased with mine, and im not planning on to get rid if it.
Good luck.
