I love your Honda questions. there's a small possibility you have a short in a wire that runs in your door. When the door is open it removes the short and lets the car to run. This is the only thing I can possibly think of that could because this problem. As remote and not likely as it looks, there's a possibility. I have seen stuff like this before where the problem was totally remote. I personally could have the battery cables checked and possibly replaced. may be a ground issue. it is an 1987 Honda accord right? possible it is also an ignition switch issue. not sure how the door could play in to it other then the key alarm activates when the door opens. completing a circuit in the ignition. Again they are all just speculations and assumptions. but they're places to start looking. if I had it at my shop I could trouble shoot it lots easier. You may just have to have your mechanic look at this one. Sorry I haven't been most of a help.

Lol. That could drive me crazy.
My guess is you have something wrong with your electrical system. When you open the door it flips a sensor on the door frame that turns on the interior door light. it is not related to the starter or fuel system BUT I could recommend turning on your lights 1st to see if that works. If not, attempt pressing the gas ONCE before you turn the key. Do you have a remote car starter/alarm or a security device? It may be causing you problems.

since the car is old,it may changed hands a couple of times. so I have seen problems like this when a car has had an alarm installed prev. and afterward ripped out but wires were left exposed, or the starterkill was left in there and that's shorting, in fact a whole alarm may be in there and activating every time you close the door that may be causing a ground to activate the alarm. weird but I have seen this before.
