The alarm on my 2001 VW Passat went off twice today for no reason. Any guesses?

on occasion the chip in the key fob loses its signal and the ignition security system shuts down. The car will also shut down if the oil pressure gets too low. It kills the gas to save the engine. The engine control unit went bad on my 2000. They fixed it under powertrain warranty.
Passats are great but costly to fix.

some security systems have shock sensors, not too sure about fitted systems, check if it does and see about adjusting senstivity. had cars come in to change caused by trucks downshifting going by and vibrating or wind, etc.

if its hot in the car it can fool the ultrasonics. this can set the alarm off its to do with the heat and the air in the car. Or it may just be the fact bigfoot has just driven past and shook the car like a rag doll setting the jacking sensor off
