Truck is jerky when I have the air conditioner running.?

Postby Voziiiii » Mon Sep 17, 2007 10:03 pm

For some reason, my truck drives weird when I have my A/C on and I take my foot off of the gas. It jerks once or twice every time I remove my foot off of the accelerator and on occasion jerks again when I put my foot back on the accelerator. When I turn off the A/C or put it on vent, it does not do this for some reason. I have also noticed that the engine idles very high when I take it out of gear or push in the clutch on occasion when I have the A/C on more so than it used to do when the A/C could be running. I also keep hearing a clicking sound coming from the engine. we have tried adding freon before, and it helped for a bit, but then it started back up again. Any idea what may be wrong?

Oh, and it does cycle more than three times for minute. nearly feels like once every not many seconds or so.

a/c units will usually cycle on and off about three times a minute depending upon the weather.. after about 85F although they stay on continuously.

I could have to see what it is doing to diagnose, also as know year, model, and engine..

My guess is the a/c for some reason is put a strain on the engine ..either the car is not to get the signal entitlement to lower/raise the idle for the a/c or something.

But usually the car will run a hair higher in RPM to help with the load of the a/c, but the jerking is what I'd be wondering.

Unless you're real low on freon and is causing the a/c to engage/disengage real quickly more than three times or so a minute I'd have to diagnose it..

If it is more than three times a minute, you have a leak and the fast cycling is causing your issues

Is it too full of freon? Is the compressor hydro locking? The compressor may be to get too much liquid back to it.

Hard to diagnose. helps when you have year, make, model, and engine size. my 1st guess could be that you over charged you air conditioning system and every time you turn it on the compressor binds up. second, your compressor clutch can be going out on you. as for the idle it may be your idle control valve. not much help . good luck

Could be either over or undercharged. Either one will because the clutch to fast cycle, causing the idle air control valve to constantly attempt to change the base idle speed. I could propose, that since it hepled a bit to add freon, that it's back low again. Fix the a/c leak, and may crack most of your troubles.
