Vehicle fail for hydrocarbons badly, what may be the fix? |
|
I done a full tune up, new distruber cap, cables, sprak plug.. new PCV valve new air filter
still planing on taking EGR valve off and cleaning it
after I did all this the hydrocarbons ppm went up another 100, not many mechanics told me it went up caused by better and full combustion creating more exhaust
Hydro carbonsa readings are now nearly 500ppm and inspections requires less then 220ppm
I do all the work myself thinked maybe replacing the Catlic convertor and the oxygen sensor
What else am I supposed to do?

The EGR valve only decreases NOX emissions. I could use a high temp infrared temp gun to see if the catalytic converter is to get hot. If it stays the same temperature as the rest of the exhaust, or there is less than a 1,000 degrees difference, change it. You may have a bad fuel injector, making your engine too lean on one or more cylinders causing you to "lean miss fire". If it was too rich, you could have high Co emissions too. I could read the O2 sensor with a scanner before just replacing it, unless you have not changed it in the last 60,000 miles. If its been that long, go ahead and change it. Believe it or not, an oil change will assist decrease hydrocarbon emissions, but not by 500ppm
