What should a car air compressor cost, as well as labor? |
|
I think the mechanic is cheating me. He wants $1100.00 to fix my a/c. Does that sound normal or reasonable? He says it's the air compressor, but I still think he's asking too much money.

I could certainly call around and get some estimates. look on eBay on occasion you may be able to purchase those compressors rebuilt for a couple hundred. I have seen people pay 1000 dollars plus for this fix. this is typically from a dealer. I myself could most likely do the job myself. good luck

that looks a little high .alot depends on the make and model of car or truck..most a/c compressor cost about 500 600 dollars..with that in mind understand he still has to refill the system with freon.you may want to call around any mechanic should about know the price of the top of their head.good luck

If it's a luxury car I will not be surprised. I just paid over $600.00 for spark plug wires for a 94 Mercedes S500 and over $3,000.00 for the Ignition control module.
If you're driving a contour, fix it then take his S to court.
I am mechanic myself and I hate to see people to get ripped off.
Good luck.
