d4 is the gear to use on the freeway. It lets the transmission to shift into overdrive giving you the best lileage. For slow speed around town driving you may find the engine runs better with less lugging in d3.

Put it in D4 and go. do not worry about D1,2,3. P is park, R is reverse and N is Nuetral. D is drive. If you need more assist you should most likely take driving lessons. do not annoy using D3 ever.your car is desingned for D4 just use that one. do not worry about city or highway..it's all the same when it comes to wear and tear. do not believe me?.just ask and dealer or adult who know how to drive.

Drive three only shifts up to 3rd gear and drive four shifts all the way to 4th gear. on the freeway I could use drive 4. and in the city where it is stop and go I could use drive three so it could be a little easyer on the transmission so it do not just shift into fourth gear and have to hit the brakes again it just makes more wear and tear on it.

For all normal driving put the transmission in D4 aka overdrive. This gives you the best gas mileage on your car as it lets the car engine run at lower speed while cruising. D3 is Drive and should be used if you're in the mountains or going up a long hill to avoid having the transmission shifing into and out of overdrive, which will damage the transmission. 2nd gear is for controlling the speed of your car when going down a long steep hill. 1st gear should be used when going down a big grade, not really any use in a car. You may also use 2nd gear to start out on slick surfaces to help decrease wheel turn.

Sure, This is a four speed auto, just like a three speed PRND2L, but with Overdrive D4. you may want to generally drive in D4 and give the engine and transmission the best mix to work with. Using a lower gear only over revs the engine and wastes gas.

put it in d4 and leave it there on the freeway.. D4 is just overdrive but driving in it locally will not hurt it either.

i use D3 on the free way cuz the speed bound is like 65 but if you get over 4000RPM on the freeway in D3 change it to D4

You mentioned its an auto meaning based on your demand the car will automatically shift up and down. Leave it in D4 and it'll do all the work for you.
