You can red line it without it overheating. IF it does overheat it something in your cooling system. I could start checking with the thermostat

It shouldn't overheat at all..... It needs to be fixed, it is not a question of your driving force/style.

You should not shift, you will get the best performance from never changing.

a good rule of thumb on any car is around 3000 rpm to decrease wear but still get you going. it is not only RPMs but also how much pedal you give it. Experiment a little every time you drive.

Why could you redline it in normal driving conditions? If you're changing at/near redline, you're going to be moving quite quickly, the engine will don’t have trouble with cooling.

Why could you want to red line it unless you're racing.it puts more stress on the engine. I could shift around 3000 rpm less the red line so that you aren't burning up gass, oil and gears. If you're going to be changing red line all the time be sure you service your oil usually.

First, the 944's engine is in the front. Only 911s and 356s if you want to go back that far have the engine in the rear.

Shifting points greatly rely on what your needs is. Are you going for speed or crusing? For speed, I tend to shift my 986 S around 6000 which is the end of the peak torque zone. For crusing, I tend to keep the rpm's around 2500 3500 to ease wear and save gas.

A Porsche engine is built to run at red line indefinitely. There should be no overheating problem unless you live in an very hot weather and you run it for expanded periods at top speed.
