RAV4 Auto Y Reg Random lights then loss of rev's ideas?

that has had an ongoing fault where random
lights appear on the cars dashboard
monitors. Then the excelerater pedal
looses the ability to add rev's before the
car stops all together. You can start the
car again but then revs climbing above 30
courses the car to race and it eventually
again dies. You can drive the car below
this. The AA thought it was a wire loose
but after two weeks our Toyota dealer
could find nothing although they replicate
the issue. They have now ordered in a new
ECU at our expense that might fix it. Any
suggestions warmly received....thanks Andy
