I think they make both. Do yourself a favor and learn how to drive stick shift. it is lots of fun, and you get better gas mileage. as well, if you get a Jetta get the TDI diesel engine . They get great gas mileage.

They typically make both kinds. The automatics are costly.

About the poster that said diesal, I would not because diesal isn't a good gasoline for passenger vehicles. And there are lots more problems. And as for your question, I believe they make them in both.

Monstblitz, they do not make the diesel anymore, unfortunately. But yes, they make both.

I agree with Monstblitz, they make both and you may want to do yourself a favor and learn to drive stick. it is a helluva lot more fun than an auto, and you may be able to squeeze better fuel economy out of them, also as having more control over your speed without using brakes in unpleasant weather.

a manual is simpler to preserve and you have more control over the engine

I have a 01 jetta manual

I got it without knowing how to drive stick too but I learned quick

it's one of those things that's hard to explain but once you figure it out you realize how easy it is

I'd go with manual, but that is personal prefrence

things to think about

do you live in an area with lots of hills or traffic

I like manual b/c it give me something to do when cruising around town

good luck

and welcome to the VW family.I love my car..

you can get an auto, DSG its like an auto, no clutch pedal to push or a manual, If you can not drive a stick, don't purchase one, If you want to be able to shift alike to a stick then purchase the DSG

All cars make auto and stickshift variants of their cars.
Only Lotus, Ferrari and Lamborghini doesn't make Automatics.
