I have a V70 c.'97. it is 2.5 litre, 20 valve petrol engine 4wd and turbo variants are available . Extras can include: roof rails, spoiler, alloys, air con, CD, leather trim seats, heated seats, electric mirrors and sun roof, heated mirrors, boot cover a blind to cover the contents of the boot, computer mileage, avg intake, etc, passenger airbag side affect protection is standard, headlamp wipers, luggage compartment net pulls up to roof from behind rear seats child seats in the boot space making seven seats .
Ours is coming up to 100,000 miles and runs well.
There may be problems with rattles from the different panels in the boot. Some of these may be cured quite cheaply by a volvo expert does not must be authorized dealer .
Does about 27mpg lots of comparatively short journeys, better on long runs, does not use much oil except on quick continental runs. Headlamp wipers can fail and may be expensive but may be lived without .

The V70 is the top of the line wagon. The S80 is the top of the line sedan.
Reliable as the 740s? Nope. The engines and transmissions are as dependable as ever, but everything else is junk and costs a fortune to fix.
