We have a 94 honda passport, has anybody ever heard of a cam

We have a 94 honda passport, has anybody ever heard of a cam follower? if so how hard is it to change?
my g/f just came back from about 200 mile trip and it knocked, kinda high in the engine, on the passenger side bank, friend said it sounded like a cam fan. any help will be appreciated

That engine didn't use the fan type valve system. The lifter is in the oil galley of the head the camshaft moves the rocker arm which opens the valve. A bit of difference in the 2. Honda recommends first to replace the oil and filter with 0w30 mobil one synthetic oil. Run the engine till its warmed up. Then run the engine in park or N, at 2500 rpm and hold it there for up to 30 minutes, this will clean out the varnish increase in the lifter and let it to pump itself up. Keep an eye on the engine temp while doing this, it'll get rather hot but shouldn't climb into the red.
If the ticking doesn't go away then the valve cover must be removed and the rocker arm and lifters and camshaft must all be inspected for extreme wear. I could give it a attempt, that is what honda wants their techs to do.

The cam followers sit over the valves. You have to take off the cam to change them.

Is there oil in it?
