A Porsche Carrera has a rear end engine and a "jump seat" in the back.
The Boxster is a two seater with a mid engine.
The Carrera you have to learn how to control the steering around corners it isn't a "natural" feeling. Easy to learn, take it out on a track with a certified PCA instructor and have fun.
The Boxster handles beautifully with a 49% 51% differential.
Meanwhile, the Carrera which we refer to as a 911 comes in different models. A convertible we call Cabriolet. A roof sliding back on new Targa models old ones, we use to take off an put in the trunk, with or without sunroofs.
Boxsters are strictly convertibles. although they have made a "sister" car sort of, and it's coupe named Cayman.
Feel free to visit porsche.com to see the models and when you get one join Porsche Club of America at pcathe
and by all means it is not just the cars it is the people.

Carrera is a 911, may be a coupe or convertible. Boxster is a different model, convertible only and £20 30K cheaper

They are two different cars for a start. The Carrera is the 911 body form and the boxter is the new, hairdresser, form.

To start with both are great cars they're porsches after all. But 911 carrera is different from a boxter. 2007 Carrera has 3.6L engine producing 325hp and the S variant 3.8L 355hp while Boxter has 2.7L 245hp engive and the S variant 3.4L 295hp. So you see the power differene there. Carrera also handles better than a boxter and carrera also may also seat four people while boxter only 2. These cars are hard to compare because they're so different. But I have never met a porsche driver who can pay for a carrera driving a boxter, boxter is an economy porsche.

Among the other answers, the Boxster is made as convertable only. The Boxster and the new Porsche Cayman are considered mid engine cars, as is the carrera GT while the carrera 911 997 is a rear engine car with either two or four wheel drive I don't think the Boxster comes with four wheel drive, though I may be wrong. FYI: if you EVER get the chance to drive or ride in a RUF Porsche, don't MISS out on the ride of your life. I could say the same about the famous 917, but I doubt anybody could get a ride in this 1000+hp LeMans winner that weighs less than 2000 lbs.
