Postby Berny » Fri Sep 28, 2007 7:53 pm

i've been researching the third gen. Madza RX 7, and many holders complain of engine flooding
what is engine flooding and why is the RX seven more prone to it?

to get so much fuel in the combustion chamber that the engine wont fire is "flooding".

Rotary engines like to run pig rich nevertheless so its not a stretch to get one to flood.

its when the engine gets too much gas and can not burn it all off now. Maybe they have bad fuel pumps, I am not sure why those specific cars could do it.

Too much fuel in the combustion chamber vs oxygen will prevent the mixture from 'firing', hence the term 'flooded' with fuel. The RX7 Wankel engine is prone to this caused by worn apex seals which decrease compression to the point where the engine is hard to start and will sooner or later stop running. If this is the problem then a cheap fix isn't in the cards as the complete engine will must be overhauled a labor intensive operation.
