I was just wandering if MERCEDES stands for anything and if it does, what is it?

It was the name of Emil Jellineks daughter. He agreed to purchase 36 cars in return that the company changed it',s name to include his daughters name. It was like 1900 and 36 cars was a TON .

It',s a woman',s name.



In 1896 Gottleib Diamler intended and built a race car for an Austrian industrialist, and he named it after the customer',s daughter. When he began producing cars for sale to the public he continued using the name.



In 1927 after WW1 he and Karl Benz merged their businesses to form Daimler Benz AG, and branded thier cars Mercedes Benz..

The name MERCEDES came from the daughter of a business man, Emil Jelinek, in Nice in 1902 when the name was 1st registered on cars worked on by Daimler MotorenGesellschaft.
