What if mercedes benz made a pickup truck?

They do. it's called a Sprinter Cab Chassis with bed. it's much like a VW Eurovan with bed as has been mentioned but bigger.
They are available starting at about $26 28K. you'll have to special order them from a Dodge dealer because in the US they're sold under the Dodge name. they're built as parts in Germany and assembled in the US.

The current model has been discontinued about two months ago and a new, and much better substitute, has just been released. go to DaimlerChrysler.com and look up the Sprinter under Vans in the Mercedes commercial vehicles model listing.

They have made a pick up since 99. it was depending on the old ML but it did dismally at the tests and were deterred to make it available commercially. It was under a project called AAV or something. I saw some in Germany they look cool but will only be available to the rest of the world in 2009.
