Crank walk is extreme side to side motion of the crank shaft caused by worn line bearings or a worn crankshaft, this prbably means the crank bearings have to be replaced, drain the oil, remove the oil pan then remove the bearing caps take out the original bearings, replace them, you may want to be able to get them at Autozone or UAP, you have to get plastiguage to check your bearing clearances, the information should be included if there's still too much bearing clearance with new bearings you must repalce the crankshaft if you are putting in a new crank I could recommend new bearings anyways you still should check the bearing clearance and file the bearings to the right clearance if they don't supply enough clearance,
that's all there's to it so all that is left is to GIT R' DONE :

Movement of the crank out of stock plans. All cranks have L to R motion, to some extent, but an extreme lateral crank motion has bad reprocussions, like hitting/grinding/destroying the crank sensor. A "walking" crank necessitates an engine rebuild.

Any car can crankwalk, but Mitsubishi Eclipses, Plymouth Lasers, and Eagle Talons with a seven screw motor are notorious for this problem. No recall was ever released as the problem was said to be lonely to a bad batch of cranks, which represented a small percentage of the made cars. different theories of why crankwalk occurs and what years are most suseptible exist, but none are proven. General consenus is poor oil flow is one because, and afterward model years seem to suffer less.

Contrary to liked opinion, any car can crankwalk, Manual, auto, import, domestic, turbo, manual, racecar, beater. All walked, and all have a chance of walking.

There is a thing call a thrust bearing that's part of the major bearings that holds the crankshaft on "end to end" play. When this specific part of the major bearing is damaged you may be able to [with the motor OFF pry the crank "in and out" without using much force. You just have tested the limitations of crank walk, which should be calculated in the thousands but by the time it's obvious it typically is observable by the necked eye.

in a nutshell, crankwalk is the amount of motion the crankshaft makes front to rear of the engine. it's controlled by one of your major crankshaft bearings called a thrust bearing. these cars had an particularly bad problem with this allthough all cars can develop this condition. the aftermarket substitute thrust bearings did not seem to have the problem. if you replace the crankshaft and bearings or maybe have it turned by a machine shop and put undersize bearings it'll fix the problem.
