People who assert that Cayennes handle like boats and are useless off road have never driven a Cayenne.
I took the 1st test drive of the Cayenne S the morning the car has been released in the US. I drove to the dealer in my 993. While the Cayenne is no 993, it's by no means "a boat". I test drove nearly every luxury SUV throughout that period and the Cayenne handled more like a car than all of the other SUVs out there. There are cars that could be envious of handling that well. The main reason we bought an MDX rather than the Cayenne was that we wanted/needed three rows.
And as for claims of being "useless" off road. seemingly this person NEVER saw the promotional videos from Porsche nor did they see the "off the road" test performed by the guys on "Top Gear", the British car afficionado car demonstrate that test drives Ferraris, Porsches, Lotuses, Jaguars, Lambos, .
The Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S are ludicrously powerful cars. zero 60 in 4.8sec? There are sports cars, roadsters, and heck, past exotics that can not pull that off. My 993 can not do that.
The G 55 AMG does zero 60 in 5.6sec? Heck that is faster than any CAR let alone SUV needs to be.
Personnally, I'd go Porsche. I have friends with an SL 55 and an SL 55 AMG. Beautiful cars. In the shop a pretty bit although. My Carrera is dependable though some cosmetic parts on the interior have broken easily .
But gotta I like the retro look of the G 55 AMG too.
Hey it is your money . or your dreams. Dream big. Dream big.

The g55 is more dependable, but the cayenne will be more fun.

cayenne is a faster and more comfy car, but the g55 is better offroad the cayenne is competent there although .
overall the Cayenne turbo could be a nicer car, but both are great.

K woah woah woah, hold on, Greg just said that the G55 is MORE RELIABLE? Lets not forget that in 2003 Mercedes Benz was the most unreliable vehicle company in the world and to date still stands in the bottom of the dependability rankings. Guess who's onthe totally other end of this spectrum? You guessed it, Porsche. They stated the least number of customer/car problems per 100 cars. I hate G wagons to tell you the truth, and the Cayenne Turbo is miles faster and more useful than the G55.

Neither.
What's the point of a sport SUV that handles like a ship in comparison to a sports car, and is useless off road in comparison to a 4x4.
The porsche seems a robbers dog, so the benz I guess.

Hi,
First of all let me avoid the G55.
Second of all, real sport SUVs don't handle like boats.
Try the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and also the BMW X5 4.4i or the 4.8i if you want real sport SUVs. Every other brand is a joke. These two vehicles are nimble SUVs with lots of handling and horse power. I am Porsche fan and I own both a 911 and an X5 and in comparison the Cayenne Turbo and the X5 are superb SUV/SAVs.
Although I am a Porsche fanatic I still believe that you will get a bigger bang for your buck with the BMW X5. I have driven the Cayenne turbo and it was an unbelievable ride, the only issue that I had was the $$$90K. The BMW X5 isn't as costly as the Porsche, but, it handles like a sports car and the acceleration is exhilarating..
However, if $$ isn't an issue then go for the Cayenne Turbo.
Good luck with your search.
Regards,
Mike

The Porche will last longer and will roast the G Wagon. The G55 is a rare, powerful distinctive ride but the price tag isn't worth it.
I could rather have the new BMW X7 over both these.
THE HUMMER H1 ALPHA SH TS ALL OVER THESE SUVS.
The H1 is and will generally be the best SUV ever made. If you want performance, this is your b tch.
It can ford 30" of water, so who cares if you live in an area recognized for flooding.
Can tow nearly 9500lbs, that is like four mini coopers
72 degree approach angle... whatever it's, the H1 can drive over it.
6061 T6 hardened aluminum aircraft body..corrosion resistant
over seven feet large and six 1/2 feet tall
50gal+ fuel tank
Basically, there's a reason the military uses these over any other car.
