What is the best engine to purchase for a 91 camaro z28? that's also not too expensive?

a good strong 350 could be a good one to put back in it,they do not cost too much either,you can find a good used one for it for around five 700 bucks with low miles on it,there's lots of those around,and any 350 will fit it also.good luck with it.

any small block chevy can and does produce great hp and will fit in there nicely. but, I'm more fractional to 400 small block bored, stroked, three duce carbs and bored out to 426 cubic inches and a pair of double hump heads from the corvette we're talking a simple 350hp or more.

if you must worry about emissions like I do, you may want to stick with what the sticker says, or you'll be spending time out at the refs office setting up a paper trail. go purchase something pre smog and have fun, there's a whole lot more that you may do with any thing from the sixties in comparison to 70s or newer. plus there's just a whole lot more metal to keep you happy inside.

Well, personally, I'd go with an LS1 5.7L. But since, we have talk about expense I'd look around for a 6.0L out of one of the late model SS truck.

Course, you generally go back with 305ci that came in the Z28, also.

which engine did the car come stock with?

Chevy 6.0 crate engine for about 4K is the best.

You want cheaper you gotta build it yourself, then you have lot's of choices.

Did it have a 305? What happened to it? Why not start with it and make a stroker???????
