I',m thinking about purchasing a 95 Honda Civic with 110,000 but there was no timing belt replaced still.

the timing belt on that car is typically replaced at 90,000 or seven years. if you're sure its never been replaced then you're overdue.

the other quotes are very high. my honda dealer has a ',package', deal for the timing belt, water pump, new coolant and new drive belts for $379. And that',s in California. you may be able to get it done for less if you go to a local mechanic who is looking for work. but,t you really should replace the other ',package', things at the same timethe water pump, coolant and the other drive belts.

Also, at 90k the car was due for a big service that will include the valve modification and spark plug replacements. with that, all the filters should be replaced also as the normal oil and filter change. the valve modification is the most important maintenance service on that car and nobody other thing has more of an influence on the engine power and fuel economy as the valve modification.

you can defer that maintenance if it hasn',t been done, but .keep in mind that if you maintain the car it'll go for 400,000 miles, so protect your investment and do the maintenance once its cheap.

best adviceshop around. call 1st and ask for a particular quote on the timing belt, drive belts, coolant and water pump as well as parts, labor and tax. as a buyer, you have the entitlement to say "no". make sure that you're comfy with the company you chose to do business with.

hope that helps

I can',t give you a pat answer on the dollar amount, but the Honda dealership can.

100,000 miles? My guess is, that year, it',s way past due for sure and yes, that could be needed now.

They',ll want to do the water pump too. $1,000.00 total bill maybe.

My guess is that's an ',interference', engine. Meaning when the belt breaks there',s interference between the valves and pistons and that will be expensive to say the least.

If that happens, think about it totaled for all acute and reasons.

wow where are you guys coming from with your prices? In sacramento, cheapest honda dealer charges about $100 an hr. 3.5hrs for the timing belt/waterpump and the three drive belts with coolant of course. oem parts alone is closer to $150 and above. I know for a fact every dealership charges at least 3.5 hrs to do the job, I don',t know how they can do the whole package for $379, in hard times.
