What is wrong with my 2002 Ford Escape?

Postby ProgrammerX » Mon Sep 17, 2007 10:09 pm

I have a 2002 Ford Escape with 84k miles and there's a deafening "clunking" sound from the the front when going over bumps and potholes at low speed under 20 mph . Has anybody had anything alike, and if how much was the repair? Thanks

Oh YES this was the fun one. I had a customers car doing this and it turned out to be the Front Sway Bar Bushing Bolts had stripped out and were loose.

Before you assume it is that, Check the Lower Ball Joints, Tie Rod Ends, and Rack and Pinion Link End and Sway Bar Links for play.

Any Play at all requires substitute.

your muffler bearings aren't out of balance they just have to be greased and rotated

The problem sounds like it may be the sway bar links. Have it checked out. About $60.
