dodgeman is right brand does matter, usually the clearer out of the bottle the better it's. avoid penz and quaker, they have heavy amounts of parafin while good for covering bearings, this frequently spells catastrophe if your engine ever runs hot. while one person had luck with slick 50, I have found it to be more of a gimmick. if your buning oil use engine restore. it make take two oil changes to get you back in form, but anything like that in an engine you don't want it to work to fast. as far as thickness. 5w 30. personally favor valvoline good agreement between price and quality

brand is unimportant..a good quality 10w40 in summer or winter will do unless you live in an area where it gets 40 then use 5w40.

check your holders manual and use the grade and sae type it calls for. avoid the cheap oils like havoline or pennzoil or quacker state. I use valvoline or exxon in my vechicles shell is good. my motto is if mal wart sells it it's the cheapest thing they can find.let it be.

as I recall ford recommends a 5W 30 weight oil. as for what brand that's up to you. I used pennzoil, quaker state, valvoline, castrol, moble 1, shell rotella, and some others over the years. the brand name oils are all good, and I favor a synthetic oil. I have not used it still, but I plan to one day to use royal purple synthetic oil. I have friends that used it and found that they like it.

Generally.

10 40

Brand really does not matter.

If the car has high mileage. 20 50.

If the engine runs OK, but looks to be using oil. attempt a can of Slick 50 with your next oil change.

I put slick50 in a car that had 175,000 miles, and it cured the car of using a quart of oil every 500 miles. At 225,000 I blew a head gasket and took the engine out for rebuild. 200,000+ and needs something big. rebuild it. or junk it Micrometer readings before "hot tank" and after indicated that something slick 50. nearly guaranteed had made up for 40/1000 of cylinder wear.

if you want a real good oil that will assist the engine last lots longer in it id use Mobil one, synthetic oil, they make it in all weights, and its the best oil made on the market,it will also help the car get better gas mileage, because it lubricates lots better than regular oils do,its costly although around five bucks a quart, but it'll help the engine to last lots longer,i use it, and never any problems from it at all, good luck on it.

We had a 86 Taurus with over 275K miles. Changed the oil every 3K with five 30. Never had any problem with engine. Never had the engine separately. When it was sold, there were no ticks or knocks in the engine, it still purred like a new one. Changed the plugs at 100K and they still looked new.
