What makes an M3 different than a regular BMW?

Postby Canondzia » Wed Sep 05, 2007 11:31 am

The m3 is the supreme model or extra sporty or turbo models of the other three series bmws also like the m5 is the turbo models of the five series, but really a m3 is bmws all supreme super car true its not that super but BMW really isn't super. I mean for that price get a porsche or better, really there's no worth on to get a m3 I mean just get a 330ci there like same cars just the airintakes, engine size, peformace specifications, etc... but trurly forget it if you really want a really fast sports car just go to a real sports car corp like porsche get a boxster for that or cayman or a pre owned almighty 911 I mean that is way faster then the m3 and porsche 911 is truely rated the worldesr safest high peformance vechile so don't worry and 911s are very realible now not like they were in the 80s or early 90s. I mean they're so realible they're way more realible then vw and volvos also they're the most realible high peformance cars. so really its smarter to get a 911 owning one of these truely has the EGO that says that " Hey I'm not lazy, I really successed in my life and have a beautiful German mad PORSCHE" I mean if a man asks what you drive bam you say Porsche and they have envy and really think you're successful. Also this happens to me when you go to a Fast food place Like "subway" and they see the porsche emblem keys in you hand or when you're in a restarant and you put your keys down the waiter sees you porsche keys and bam they stair at them wishing they owned one also many people come by and say nice porsche. a lot of times when a porssche comes into a parking spot then the kids say WWWWOOOOWWWW NICE PORSCHE. REALLY A PORSCHE IS A DREAM CAR, kids DRIVE OF IT ALL THE TIME AND EXSECTIVES DREAM OF THEM THE DAY THE GET THE MONEY TO pay for ONE ALSO IMAGINE WHEN YOU TELL YOU PARENTS THAT YOU BOUGHT A PORSCHE they'll BE SO HAPPY FOR YOU they'll THINK THEY THEY WERE GOOD PARENTS BECAUSE YOU really SUCCEDED IN YOUR LIFE AND BOUGHT AND NOW HAVE OWNERSHIP OF A PORSCHE 911 CARRERA. ALSO YOU DAD WILL PROBLY GO OUT SIDE TO SEE IT AND BEG YOU TO LET HIM DRIVE IT BECAUSE THET WAS HIS DREAM CAR WHEN HE WAS YOUNG OR NOW

ALSO IF I WERE YOU AND WHEN YOU choose TO SELL THE 911 I could GIVE IT TO YOUR FATHER REALLY he'll APPRECIENT IT AAAALLLLLLLOOOOOOOTTTTT.
AND REALLY THINK YOU CAR ABOUT HIM

I think the M3 has better suspension and tire package then the regular three series. I think caused by the high top speed ranking the M3 is design differently to rationalize the high price.

man I can not believe these answers. This is like heracy. the bmw M series is BMW's performance series. This goes back to teh renowned 1986 M3 which was used to race in european GT class racing. since then BMW has made an M series care for all tehre classes M3, M5, and recently teh M6. The car has a racing grade engine which more horses and performance suspension.

To be honest, it could most likely cost more to upgrade your car to M3 specification that it could to just purchase an M3 when you factor in things like cost of parts and labor. The M3 takes a three series coupe and 1st uses light weight aluminum panels to decrease weight. The suspension is totally reworked, as well as the driveline. The transmission and rear end are upgraded. The engine is possibly the biggest upgrade in the car. You could take a regular three series engine and upgrade it to produce alike levels of power although. BMW's are great cars to start with, and any enhancements you make will only make a great car better, good luck

The answer is depends on what generation you're talking about. M is BMW racing line so they just take regular BMW and install racing parts. The engines S series are geared toward speed so acceleration is faster. Shocks and springs are typically the same, but typically M cars comes with firmer sway bar or totally redesigned sway bars. Visually the side skirt and side mirrors are different. Also the with of front and rear tires are wider to be able to take faster turns. Other than that, it shares the most of the characteristics with standard M5x engines.

The M3 is the high powered variant of the three series. The M3 has a reworked six cyl motor though the 2008's will have an eight cyl for the first time.
The suspension is reworked and the tires and wheels are bigger to offer better handling. There are air vents in the fenders to cool the brakes I think that is what they are for and ground effects.

I could add the following to the excellent comments above about the difference in suspension, tires, brakes, and engine:

The S series engines are constructed completely by hand, whereas the "normal" engines in most BMW's are constructed at least partially by robot. This will give you better build quality in general in the engine department.
