like some1 said, tweeter=highs, mid=mids, sub=lows. without tweeters you are vocals could sound like crap. a good way to see how important they're is get a set of part speakers for the front. set the fade to front on you are headunit and install the new speakers. leave the tweeters unhooked and play some music, then connect the tweeters and play some music. you will see a big change in the sound

tweeters are the smallest speakers that play the highest notes. there are midranges which duh, play the mid range notes, then subwoofers, which play the lowest notes. you usually find tweeters up near the dashboard beside the doors on most cars. midranges are in the doors or as 6x9's usually in the back, then subwoofers you usually find as aftermarket things in the trunk/hatchback area.

they are just high note speakers. they make your sound more crisp. and they're small so they're easy to work with.
