When did they stop building real cars?

Postby Marcello » Tue Nov 03, 2009 2:26 am

When did they stop making cars out of metal and switched over to plastic? I',d like to know so that way I can figure out the death of the auto business and when my cars', kids died. I have a 1960 Chevrolet Bel Air and a 1964 Cadillac Coupe Deville .

I don't count those plastic cars they make These days as real cars.

1974, around the time of the 1st oil embargo. And I had a 60 Chevy Bel Air when I was in high school. Unfortunately the frame rusted and I had to sell it off.

New cars are constructed to last too, you retard. It',s humorous how you keep going on and on about how old cars are so great, and you',re not old enough to completely appreciate them. Report Abuse

The only "death" I see here, is your capability to evolve dying. Times change. Cars change. That',s how it goes. Get over it. but, since you asked, the patents for plastic car bodies, go back as early as 1961, that I could see. So your Cadillac was born AFTER the "death" of real cars. Guess you have a nonreal car there. Sucks for you.

And the two cars you have, are junk in comparison to the cars of the 40s.

It',s all a matter of perspective. In another 100 years, cars will be something totally beyond what they're now, and the "plastic cars" of today, will be the classics.

What I'd like to know is why you feel the have to complain about modern cars. So you don',t like them. Who cares? Enjoy your cars and be happy.

Oh, and to answer your question directly:

1941, was the 1st plastic car. Made by Henry Ford.

And if anybody goed to choose where cars should go at some point, I could think it was him. Meaning both of your cars came long after the introduction of plastic cars. Which could make them a throwback, not a good thing.

most people just want to get from A to B without spending a load on fuel or destroying the earth, plastic decreases a car',s weight so takes less energy to push it.
