The LS1 Series engine is far better than the LT1. The LS1 is so good in fact that LS series engines established off the same architecture as the LS1 represent all of GM's performance V8s to this day. The LS7R just recieved an award as Motorsports engine of the year. lots people with older generation Chevys as well as LT1 Camaros and Corvettes take out the original engines and put in a generation four LS Series engine.

The LS1 is better, it has a better design and is more lasting then the LT1.

The LS1 is the better of the two. Both are mod friendly engines, and both will last if you take care of them. But in general, the LS1 is the better of the two. Low end torque numbers are close, but the LS1 has better power numbers through the complete curve.
just, from a stop, the LT1 will launch with the LS1, but the LS1 will pull away from the LT1 soon after initial launch. There has been word that the LT1 is better off the line, but the power of the LS1 makes up for that quickly.
If I had an LT1 in good form, I'd keep it. But if I needed a rebuild, I'd shop for an LS1.
