Which is a better car to purchase a Mini Cooper S or BMW Series 1?

It depends what you need. The one series is going to be available with some number of motors as well as a turbo 135i with a whopping 300 hp. No mini will EVER have 300hp. But if you are not interested in hp, the MINI will get better gas mileage. The one series is bigger, the MINI is uglier. The BMW is rear wheel drive, the MINI is front. front wheel drive is for skirts. The one series could win in my book. More refinement, quieter, and in general sexier. Are all the people answering these questions retarded? A fuckin VW Beetle TDI?? Moron. And to set everyone straight on this fuckin crash test ...ONE of BMW's MANY cars got not so good marks on ONE kind of CRASH TEST. five series, side affect, 40mph, VERSUS AN SUV. The KIA that's supposedly better than the five series at a side affect by an urban assault car is the Amanti.take the Spectra versus an SUV, and everyone in the KIA could die. look at the new three series. four out of five stars in general. Same for the Z4. BMW all together is still safer and more dependable than most. Do a bit more research next time instead of just reading MSN. Got that KIA boy?

I could wait before buying the one Series. It needs to have one year for trial and error. The Mini Cooper S is a great car. The one Series will probably be a great car also but I'd wait. though it is already available abroad, the body is changing. It not has a hatchback. It really looks HOT.. Still, I'd wait a year to work out the kinks.

well, its is made by the same company but I see more people with BMW's if you want to be 'IN' the crowd get a BMW or if you want to be 'out' of the crownd get a mini

If you want to have a really easy time with it and not want to have to take it to the mechanic shop every five miles. otherwise if you want really good gas mileage take the mini.

Neither...both are over priced for what you get. I live close to the BMW plant in South Carolina and on the evening news last week they stated BMW was at the bottom of the last crash tests?. You may want to look this up on the web to confirm.

You can spent the same money and get a better car. you are purchasing a name with both. Check out a Camry, Avalon, etc. I could check buyer reports..

In my opinion, the Mini Cooper S is better than the BMW one series.

I could choose the BMW 130 or 135i if/when it becomes available. it's lots more money but it's worth it. The one series was sold in Europe for three years now, hopefully all the workmanship bugs could be sorted out by the time they're imported into US. I can not say that the Mini could be more dependable . after all they're from the same company, but different factories.

The one series is rumoured to be depending on the last generation three series chasis. though BMW never officially came out to say this, but if you compare the dimensions and chasis width and length and front and rear profiles of the three series 1999 to 2005 and the one series, they're nearly same. also, BMW does officially say that over 60% of the parts of the one series are shared with the current three series cars 2006+ . So . you're to get lots of performance & luxury parts in a rear wheel drive hatch back. can not go wrong with a fast lavish hatchback that you may go to the race track with, then throw your gear in the back and go skiing or camping. can not beat that for functionality.

The mini though has a "fun" factor it is not in the same league. Less room, less performance, less utility. More of a girly car, kinda in the same league as a Beetle or a Miata. but that is just my opinion.

The BMW one Series is a more upscale car for BMW. The Mini is their entry level sports coupe. The BMW offers more hp and more luxury features. they're quite different cars performance and handling wise.

A Mini Cooper S will also cost less than a one Series
