I am specific interested in the dependability for porsche turbos. can anybody explain to me if a porsche is a buy? I love ferraris, but people have told me to purchase porsche instead for their dependability and cheaper maintaince compares to a ferrari? is it true? 996 models or 997? could you purchase a 996 turbo or a 997 carrera?

three of my friends have 996 Turbos & I was 95% convinced to get a 996, till I drove the 997. I now have a 997 C4 cab.
The character of the car is different. Its not as fast as the 996 Turbo, but its a fast car.
The 997 turbo price point is a little to high for what it's. You get close to the same performance with teh 996T. it'll take some time for the mark ups "calm down".
But at $135K there are many other "exotics" I could rather drive. 360 Modena, Lamborghini Gallardo, 550 Marenello,
Ferraris' Post 1997 are reletivly dependable, but, their maintanace is the tough part. Normal services are twice to three times what a porsche service could be $700 .
