my daughter owns an 2004 accent not a 05 . It has 74,000 abused miles on it and it runs excellant. It was in three accidents two weren't her fault it get excellant gas mileage and gets her to where she wants to go. the car does well in accidents knock on wood no injuries for the amount of damage it gets. we own a 05 elantra with nearly 60,000 miles. we don’t have complaints about the service we received at the hyundai dealer in emmaus pa. they're exceptional. they don’t have problem doing warranty work. our 1st hyundai was a 1986 excel gls that went over 200,000 miles but has been totaled by a red light runner.

I have a 2005 Accent GT, bought new in 2/2006. I like it ok, I am 6'1" and it has lots of leg room to drive it, and the seat goes up and down allowing lots of headroom. I also like the hatchback and fold down seats which lets me to carry big flat screen tv's.

I'm not thrilled as I wasn't with my 92 Elantra with the timing belt interval, a measly 60,000 miles. They may have done better Honda's belt interval is 90K for example, and for me, every two years I get to use up 500 or 600 dollars changing the belt, tensioner and water pump, and every second belt the top spindle needs to be replaced, too. Penalty for neglect? New engine, 2000 dollars minimum.

It gets good gas mileage, but mine just went through a new water pump under warranty at 44,000 miles, and had to have a bracket for the manual tranny fixed also warranty . Also just went through a three visit stint over a check engine light that comes and goes and the dealer sent it back to me no trouble found, they cleared the codes from the computer and report no trouble found, fixing nothing. My dealer refused to replace the timing belt at the time of the bad water pump although they had to take off the timing belt to get to the pump, and refused to let me to purchase the belts myself and hand them over for installation. They want their $600.00 for the belt change at 60,000 and trust me, after that, they will never get another dime from me.

The dealer service departments and managers are putrid, their incomes are depending on prying every nickle out of you, and they intentionally dodge repairing/replacing parts under warranty, generally attempting to kick the fix can down the road beyond warranty. I have been purchasing cars at Fairfax Virginia Hyundai since 1986 and they were the jewel of the dealer business here up till the last several years. Now but, they have become suspect in their service decisions, generally erring on the side of the dealer and factory, generally dodging questions, never answering concerns.

Letters, email and written, bring no answer from dealer or factory. Calling Hyundai USA gives you a polite person who takes the complaint, but has no power to satisfy. My affiliation with Hyundai ends after I dispose of this car, absent a big change in approach of the dealer and factory.

My answer is predisposed, clearly, but I am a long time buyer, and while I like the price, the features, and the brand, the dealers are putrid, unresponsive and I feel, don't honor the vaunted warranty they endlessly nauseate us all with in their commercials. I'd say Hyundai is a no go depending on support after the sale. it is terrible. You simply shouldn't have to feel like you are hat in hand under warranty to get your car fixed. Again, Hyundai is no go.
