Why are new cars getting heaver and heaver .?

I just watched a car &, driver video that tested three new sport sedans and each of them weighed over two tons.

I believe the weight is coming from the onboard computers and the mandated safety equipment

The weight is most probably coming from reenforcement in the doors, rear end and the fire wall. There also has been some talk of metal granules being blended in with glass, to form a sturdier glass.Every time you add something new the heavier they get.
