Why did my wife's 1999 VW Jetta VR6 just choose to not start

Why did my wife's 1999 VW Jetta VR6 just choose to not start or anything yesterday?
She went to start it and it could not crank over. what is worse is the windows were down and they'll not go up. The trunk will not open or anything. This car was trouble since we got it about six months ago. The battery is charged, so it isn't that charged it overnight to make sure . All the fuses seem to be good. I know the car has an integrated alarm system, so that's what I suspect. Is there a way to reset a starter kill on this car. Help me, I am desperate.

The lights come on inside the car and out headlights work and the gas tank switch works, but everything else is "locked out". The remote also does nothing ie. will not lock or unlock doors .

I'll attempt the battery cleaning, but I just do not think that is it since the headlights are nice and bright.

be sure there's no corrosion esp. on the neg. terminal. The only thing you may be able to do for the home mechanic is do this and it may work. Disconnect the pos. and neg. terminal. Hold them together for five sec. and reconnect them to the battery and see what happens. By doing that, it resets the computer.

Try cleaning the battery terminals, they build up a level of lead oxide that can let low power flow but not enough amperage to work the starter and other motors. Also check if you may be able to see any signs that it may have been in a flood, pull some wire connectors and see if they look corroded, look for rust where it shouldn't be. If you see any think that seems flood damage get rid of the car. you'll be chasing electrical problems for ever.

Did the alarm go off. I believe I saw someplace that if you open the door and set off the alarm you must take it to the dealer and get it reset. you may want to call the dealer to make sure. You seem to have the signs of having your car disabled by the alarm.

most probably is a bad ignition switch, if the dash lights come on and no crank then there's no power to the starter, if there's then a bad starter is the because. good luck
