Why does my 1971 Porsche 911 backfire on deceleration? What could help ?
Would it help to run it with an 87 octane gas ? now I run it with premium 93 .
The air cooled engine has its original Webber carb's.

Pretty much all older 911s do this. hell, they are famous for it. My 930 belches like mad when I let off the gas, and I have a friend with one that shoots 18+" flames out of his when on the track.
the crunching and popping is just classic porsche. And don't run it on 87.

its common on old porsches to do that, but if you wanted to fix that you could most likely want a different exhuast system.
