Why does my 1995 Mazda 929 have three converters and two mufflers?
It has what seems to be two catalytic converters close to the exhaust manifolds. It has another one after the wye. Then it has two mufflers after that. It isn't a dual exhaust system. Only certified mechanics answer.

After the wye it's a single exhaust system. Both mufflers are on the same pipe and doesn't have the dual exhaust look.

im not a damn certified but here I go if you care well if not ... it's your problem

after the manifold there's big pipe that thing is a kind of catalitic monolytic converter then it goes to the major catalytic, then some cars has a re sonator seems a regular pipe but a more bigger and the muffler

Steve,

The two front cats are light off cats, they get the burn started earlier to help the major cat do it is job of decreasing tailpipe emissions. Two mufflers were used to give the meaner look of dual exhausts. After all is not the 929 their top of the line in '95?
