Why does my battery keep draining in my VW 2002 Passat? Alte

When this did it to me, it was the return cable or the alternator being bad/ withered away, there may be a slight return but mine crumbled once I touched it. I know working on this car is a ache that stupid "service position" but check/ touch that wire because you may get a good return one second but if you jerk or bump the car at all the wire can lose it. so with the car off check that wire to be sure it isn',t going bad rotting out.

To find the parasitic drain, you must use a VOM Volt Ohm Meter .

Disconnect the Battery ground from the battery.

Place the VOM on 10Amp Scale and place it in series with the battery.

Check the amps to see what you're pulling with no key on.

One by One remove each fuse till out get it to read .005A. check it after you pull each fuse no better replace the fuse and move to the next one.

Once you have found the fuse, then you know which circuit to Zero in on to find the drain.

Causes of Parasitic drains are but not restricted to:

Aftermarket Alarm Systems

Bad Battery cables from frame to battery, then frame to Engine Block.

Bad Grounds on the Alternator, from the Case to the Engine Block.

Same for Positive cables.

Bad Starter solenoids that remain engaged.

After Market Stereos

Trunk lights left on.

Glove box lights that the switch is bad leaving the on when shut.

Finding Drains isn',t that Hard Once you know where they're in the Schematic.
