i have a TMA amp made by jl audio its the t360.2 model it claims to put out 360 watts x one at four ohms when linked...when I run a single 12" alpine type r to it it pushes the alpine good if its linked but the amp gets hot pretty fast and sooner or later will shut down.why is this? I was told that when you bridge it the amp sees a two ohm load.but the amp isn't stable linked to two ohms right? the sub is wired to four ohms I know it's and its useless to not bridge it because it only puts out 110 watts unbridged..what do I do or is there just no way around this?

inadequate airflow across the cooling fins id bet. you may attempt using a small fan to push air over it...

you are right that your speaker should be wired to present a four ohm load to the amp. its sounds like you may not used the right size power and ground cables. this is most likely the common mistake that do it yourself ers make when installing an amp. your amp should be wired using at least eight guage wire. its is important that your ground connection is made to a good hard ground. you may want to remove any paint with sandpaper so you have good metal to metal contact. as well, remember that wire sizes get bigger the smaller the number is.

ok heres an easy solution, you have to check your connections because you subwoofer is dvc you have four connection posts on the sub goto this site and put in your subwoofer dvc four ohm or what ever it's, and it'll tell you how to wire it to a particular load rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asprockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp">rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wo.

the amp is as you say only stable to four ohms in linked mode, but what is your sub? is it a dual four ohm sub or a dual two ohm sub.?

Bridging the amp doesn't effect ohms. ohms are a measure of the speaker resistance. if you have a dual four ohm sub that's your problem. it can only be configured as a two ohm or a eight ohm... probably you wired it as a two ohm and that could give the results your talking about. if it's indeed a dual two ohm wired in series to a four ohm load. then you may want to double check your ground. if it's weak the amp may act as you describe. the ground should screw straight to the frame, like a seat screw, and make sure to take off the paint from the connecting surface. also be sure your cables are all the right size. you may want to have nothing less than a eight ga wiring.
