Why was there a fast steady clicking sound from where the fu

Postby tandberg » Tue Nov 03, 2009 2:25 am

I say was because my 98 Jeep great Cherokee',s battery is dead. Once the cover to the fuse box inside on the passenger side was taken off, other than the pushin fuses, there are two wires, one green and one red that have fuses in them. The green one is wrapped around a fuse which is plugged in. And the red wire looks as although it was done the same but has come loose due to bare wires on the end. When I tried to start it the clicking changed speeds in different ignition positions but could never attempt to start. although it started and was driven only approx. five hours previous. That',s all that was done far.

Thank you for your help, Janet',s husband Phillip.

If you bought this car used, it sounds like the last owner added something. Factoryapplied wire terminals rarely come off. The giveaway here is that someone tapped into a power fuse. At least they had the good common sense to use an inline fuse holder.

Try tracing the loose wire back to its source, and see what it's powering. It can be something that',s controlled through the ignition. If find the ignition solenoid typically on the fenderwell near the battery and attach this wire on the post reverse the post the battery cable is attached to. That way, it',s being turned off by the key. Now for the one still attached to the fuse. Look at the fuse chart on the inside of the cover, or in your owner',s manual, and recognize the fuse. If it',s an accessory that shuts off when the ignition is off, do the same with it. Wrapping a bare wire around a fuse post is a fast way to start a car fire.
