Why wont my ebrake work on my 98 cavalier? |
|
My ebrake on my 98 z24 cavalier barley works at all. My brake pads are good. you may be able to pull the ebrake straight up and it barley does anything. How can I fix this problem?

you may be able to crawl under the rear of the car near the left rear wheel and see the adjuster near the rear axle. Easy to change, and common on Cavalier and Baretta. you may be able to see the front cable come into the adjuster and the two cables that go to the rear wheels. Hold a 1/4" wrench on the cable near the adjuster and turn the adjuster. You may need a wrench to also turn the adjuster but on occasion you may be able to turn it by hand. Depends if it's rusted or not. You want to constantly check the e brake also. The idea is to get it adjusted to the point that you pull up on the e brake five six clicks, and the rear end does not drop to the ground when you set the brake. If the rear end looks to drop when you put on the brake, it needs a bit more adjusting. Hope this helps.

first you have to check and be sure the rear brakes are good, and it they're change the emergency brake cable on it,that what works the e brake,if the rear shoes are kind of worn out although you wont get too good of an e brake on it,but it'll work good enough to hold it on a hill, good luck with it.
