Will I have problems with this car?

Postby EduCate » Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:42 am

I am thinking about purchasing a 1992 Subaru SVX with 81000 miles for $2600. I'm not sure if it has a transmission cooler installed on it, and I'll don't know if there's anything wrong with the transmission. I'll test drive it before I purchase it if there it slips or anything, Ill stay away. I wondered if there could possibly be something wrong with the transmission, but it hasn',t gotten to the point were it slips still. as well, if anybody knows how much installing a transmission cooler could prevent the problem of overheating. If anybody knows and can give me anymore info on the common SVX transmission overheating problem I could be happy. By the way, I could not be driving the car more than ten miles a day.

I have SVX experience, but I owned a couple Legacys and am now driving an Impreza. With under 100,000 miles, I could assume the trans could be in decent form. Have you heard this is a particular issue with the SVX?

Typically, a transmission cooler is for cars that haul loads of some sort.not sure it could be needed for a passenger car that drives usually.

Drive the car and see how it shifts. If you purchase it, drain the trans liquid and replace the filter and be good to go.

SVX',s do have tranny problems. I typically purchase them from a wrecking yard that gets them from japan with low miles.

I could stay away despite. The parts on the thing are costly. Lots of clips for the mouldings. Also if it has air ride suspension, that tends to go out too.
