Will my Oyster card still work? |
|
I've accidently left my oyster card in my trouser pocket which I had put in the washine machine over the weekend. I could like to know if or not my oyster card could work still?

It most likely will yes. Being plastic, the cards are waterproof.
9 times out of ten when a punter brings a flawed Oyster to me, its stopped working because its got a hefty crack in it. typically caused by it being kept in a back pocket and being sat on. they are just built like a chip and pin credit card, except the chip is inside not out, and there is an interior aerial wrapped round the inside so the gates can read the chip.
If it does not work, take it to the 1st open ticket office you see, and they will get you to fill in a form, then replace it for you. presuming you registered it when you got it, if not then you are lost and you will just have to get a new one.
EDIT: Just came back to read through the other answers. Any crack in the card will render it useless, if its not on the chip, because as I said there is an aerial looping around the inside of the card, and if you break that then it will not work.
As for plastic wallets you may be able to get them free of charge from any ticket office, just ask.

Depends if the magnetic influence from the machine wiped the info stored on the card or not.
Good luck.

It depends how much damage its got.

We use alike cards in different transit systems in the U.S.
As long as the area where the chip is is undamaged not cracked then the card should work. I do not know if the chip place is observable in the Oyster Card it could be a small somewhat raised area .
The best thing to do is to attempt it and if if will not work follow the needed procedure to have the card replaced I assume you did register it .
One thing I could propose purchase a small plastic card holder if you may be able to. That way the card will be more protected.
