It depends on the state of motor and transmission. You or someone you may be able to trust needs to look over the car. Look for leaks AFTER you drive it + leave some cardboard under the car, body damage plus signs of fix, be sure the lights work, check the alternator and distributor, brakes, look for any signs of rust. Watch for any smoke coming from the rear pipe. Any strange noises, etc.

$3,000 is kinda low, on KBB the 1.6L VTEC EX with that many miles, it',s private party value is $3,700$4,700.

Ask why it doesn',t have a stereo/cd player, it',s possible the car was stolen and the engine was taken so the owner put in another engine, a cheaper and weaker one and can be trying to sell it. The engine code should be D16Y8 EX if it',s a VTEC and if it',s the right motor. You',ll find that engraved on the motor near the distributor under one of the radiator hoses. If it',s the LX or DX the engine code is D16Y7.

Besides looking at this as being a bad choice, it',s possible you just came across a great deal. I got my 1995 Civic EX for $1,000 LESS than what it was worth and the thing runs like a champ, after nearly two years afterward. I know someone who plans on purchasing a 1990 Camaro for just $600 and it runs pretty decent.

It depends. I wouldn',t since it's a bit old and you may be able to find a newer car for that money. as well, you must watch out with those types of cars since those that own the older ones, typically young people, like to race those cars and overuse the engine, if you know what I mean. Hondas are one of those vehicles that are more probably to be stolen.

dont worry about the cd player, its easy to install a new stereo.

and is it the two door or the four door? I like the 2dr better but the 4dr is worth more

according to kbb, the 4dr dx civic is worth 3700, so you are to get a good deal

Sounds like a steal. Better have someone look the engine and tranny over really well and check what kind of title it has salvaged? . And CD players are pretty cheap. I could make that deal if everything checked out.

It sounds like a great price for the mileage you stated.
